However, Mario Kart 64 has more unique courses because Diddy Kong Racing had specific settings for each course in its trophy cups. They both exhibit vibrant visuals and both have a sense of progression within the course which I feel is very important in a racing game. Also, while I enjoy the challenge of the harsh rubberbanding, it sucks when it breaks and slingshots one racer ahead, never to be seen again. MK64 has the best multiplayer, but the races with 3 players or above feel bad cause the framerate takes a big hit. Apart from Diddy, and the 2 characters who went onto their own games, the cast and tracks are largely forgettable. I do also wish the drift mechanics were different/better, and had a drift boost mechanic.
